About 500 people took part in the "Immortal regiment", which was held in Beirut as part of a series of events dedicated to the Victory Day.
Lebanon have deep respect for the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany, they honor the memory of the fallen during the Great Patriotic War and annually organizes a variety of activities that take place under the auspices of the Russian Embassy in Beirut and the Russian Center of Science and Culture.
Local authorities (Internal Security and Lebanese Army) provided all possible support for this event. They blocked traffic on several central streets of the Lebanese capital for the period of March. Participants of the action "Immortal regiment" proceeded from the church, where they held a prayer service before the RCSC building, singing songs about war - "Katyusha", "Day of Victory", "Holy War". There also prepared a Studio Theater performance about the heroism of the Soviet people during the war - "I will definitely be back." In addition, throughout May, the RCSC will screen movies about the war.
However, the celebration of Victory Day in Lebanon is not limited to only these activities. So, from May 1, starts the action "George Ribbon", and now Lebanese citizens who have never even been to Russia already know about the ribbon and that it's a symbol of the Soviet people's victory in the Great Patriotic War.
Active participation in the celebration of the Victory Day takes in Lebanon Alumni Association of Soviet and Russian universities. They organized a gala evening dedicated to Victory Day, as well as on the means placed on the main highways of the republic posters on this subject. Traditionally, in Beirut, a football match between graduates and employees of the Russian embassy, ??which ended with a tie score.
It should be noted that these annual events are not merely symbolic. They help to educate the younger generation, including children from the joint marriages, and also form the Lebanese respect for Russians who even away from home, do not forget those many years ago gave their lives for their future.
