🇫🇷Quel parfum vous rappelle le plus Liban ? Ghaida Dirani et Rami Moukarzel, deux cinéastes libanais ont sélectionné trois odeurs agréables et trois autres désagréables qui pour eux résument le Liban. Celles du café, de la lavande et de l’herbe fraîche “Tayyoun” pour les belles odeurs et celles de l’iode, du sulfure et de l’eau de mer de Ramet el Bayda pour les mauvaises. Ils ont ainsi créé une installation artistique dans laquelle les visiteurs sont invités à découvrir une odeur libanaise associée à un son; leur produit conçu pendant un atelier de physique créative est actuellement exposé à Station Beirut. “Cette année, je commençais à faire les allers-retours entre Beyrouth et mon village d’origine dans la Bekaa et j’ai été frappée par les différences d’odeurs, explique Dirani. Le parfum des herbes fraîches du jardin de ma mère contrastait terriblement avec celui des abords de Beyrouth. “ Les visiteurs ont réagi de façon très différente: “Certains étaient très émus, et d’autres très gênés, comme s’ils niaient la situation dans laquelle nous vivons.” -----
🇺🇸 If you had to sum up Lebanon in 6 smells, which ones would you choose? Filmmakers Ghaida Dirani and Rami Moukarzel chose 3 pleasant ones: fresh coffee, lavender, and “Tayyoun” herb; and 3 unpleasant ones: iodine, sulfur, and.. the water from Ramlet el Bayda beach. They created an artistic project around it, associating smells and sounds, during a creative physics workshop held last week, and being currently exhibited at Station Beirut . “This year I started going back and forth between Beirut and my village in the Beqaa”, explains Dirani. “I experienced the difference of smells between both: being in my mother’s garden and smelling all the nice herbs she has, then coming back to Beirut and having to cover my nose as soon as I reached the suburbs”.
