Amer, 28, Coiffeur/Hairdresser
Amer est coiffeur à Hamra. Son salon est ouvert 24 heures sur 24. Parmi ses clients figurent de nombreux chanteurs et acteurs qui se produisent dans le quartier. Pour Amer, son métier est un rêve d’enfant qui s’est réalisé. Il a commencé à travailler comme apprenti à douze ans dans son quartier d’origine Ouzaï. Aujourd’hui, la décoration des lieux est un hommage à ceux qu’il coiffe. Pour en arriver là, Amer a dû économiser le moindre sou. Il lui arrivait souvent de rentrer à Ouzai à pied pour économiser les frais de services. Son rêve : se faire un nom dans le milieu si compétitif des coiffeurs Libanais.

Amer works as a hairdresser in Hamra, Beirut. His salon is open 24/7. He caters to the needs of Lebanese night owlers, as well as the actors and singers who perform every night in the theaters nearby.
This salon is Amer’s childhood dream. He grew up in the popular neighborhood of Ouzai, and started working in a hairdressing salon when he was 12 years old. He worked hard towards his goal: “I used to go back home walking, to save on the transportation money”, he recalls. (NB: the cost of a communal taxi, or “service” is less than deux dollars). Now, he continues to work hard to make himself a name in the very competitive sector of Lebanese hairdressers.
