“Our cherries… they’re one of a kind,” Hasan el Hosseini tells us, while setting his booth at Souk el Tayeb… Hasan comes from Chmistar, a village in northern Bekaa. He explains that the trees are nurtured by a rainfed agriculture also known in Arabic as “زراعة بعلية”. This sort of agriculture helps preserve water. The cherries have a very sweet taste. Try one, when you pass by Hasan’s booth! Inviting people to taste, is a natural gesture at Souk el Tayeb. “Everyone keeps on inviting me to taste their products; I feel joy in offering mine”. #EncountersAtTheSouk
