My beautiful niece Randa came past earlier this morning, all excited because her son's first tooth just popped up. After a quick visit to the corner lebanese grocery shop, we were all set to begin preparing #snayniyeh #سنينيية to celebrate one of our little Jacob's first milestones. After boiling a large pot of wheat, we laid out the grains onto flat round plates and decorated them with an assortment of sweets, pomegranate, almonds, walnuts, raisins and candied chickpeas. Tradition has it that plates of snayniyeh are given out to family, relatives and friends to enjoy the dessert and to join in the celebrations with the parents by sending best wishes of #الله يعيشه which means #Godbless him/her. The empty plates are returned to the parents with small gifts such as a pair of hand knitted socks, a hand sewn pair of gloves and any other item of clothing.
Today we wish our beautiful baby Jacob a lifetime of happiness and healthy strong teeth of course.
