Just had a half hour conversation with my older brother about white bait... Just had a half hour conversation with my older brother about white bait fish and how we used to buy it in the old days back in the village. He is 13 years older than I and so I figured he would remember a little more than I did. He told me that a fisherman would carry a large rectangular wooden box on his head filled with white bait fish and covered with ice. The fisherman would go around the village screaming at the top of his lungs "white bait" "بزري يا سمك", informing the village woman of his arrival. The woman would go to him with a tray or a bowl or whatever was handy to put the fish in when they bought it. He would carry with him an old scale and would use stones for measuring the weight. Today, as I cooked my white bait fish, I remembered sitting for hours gutting the fish so that Ouma could cook them for us. It was well worth the effort as this was a rare meal we would have. The best part was the crunchy bread Ouma used to fry after the fish. Wishing all my friends a happy and safe weekend. 🌷🌹 . . . . #middleeast #arabfood #lebanesefood #سمك #homemade #food #organic #vegan #glutenfree #foodspotting #mezza #arabfoodporn #caterer #catering #instafood #cheflife #fish #sustainableliving #cheflife #love #tbt #photooftheday #summer #instagood #nationalart #repost_restaurant #6b5km
