Deir al-Qalaa em árabe significa 'Mosteiro da Cidadela', e representa o que sobrou de um templo romano que correspondeu à grandeza dos templos de Baalbek e da fortaleza de Niha. Localizada em Beit Meri, Monte Líbano, a igreja dedicada a São João Batista foi construída sobre os restos do templo no século XVIII. Embora tenha sofrido um grande prejuízo durante a guerra, o site desde então foi devidamente restaurado e mantido para eventos culturais e turísticos. Há também no local os restos de uma cidade bizantina que remonta aos séculos 5 e 6. 🇱🇧 Deir al-Qalaa's name is Arabic for “Monastery of the Citadel,” representing what’s left of a Roman temple that once matched the grandeur of Baalbek’s temples and Niha’s fortress. Situated in Beit Meri, Mount Lebanon, a church dedicated to St. John the Baptist, was built over the temple’s remains in the 18th century. Though it suffered a great deal of damage during the war, the site has since been dutifully restored and maintained for cultural and touristic events.
