On a short walk from Saida Sea Castle you’ll find Khan el Franj / “Caravanserai of the French", built by Emir Fakhreddine Maan II in the 17th century to accommodate French merchants and goods in order to develop trade with Europe. This is a typical khan with a large rectangular courtyard surrounded by covered galleries. The ground floor was a market place, while on the upper floor the merchants could spend their time resting. Making it one-stop place for Merchants visiting from across the seas. Making it the commercial center for International Trade in Saida. Later the Khan was donated to the French, who used it as a consulate.
