It's Day 7 of the revolution and it’s the first time since it started that I woke up feeling angry and disturbed. I am a photographer with a degree in journalism and never have I been so disappointed with the media, specifically TIME magazine. Not only has TIME trivialised our revolution and distorted the reality of the status quo, but they have used images taken by a visual artist to depict a society that doesn't represent us as a whole, not to mention the dryness, the sarcasm and the lack of empathy in the writer's tone, which is hard to miss. The photographer uses unconventional subjects and portraits unrepresentative of the Lebanese society. Also there's a photo which claims that protestors were vandalising streets and breaking shops. Those were not protesters, but troublemakers, sent out to break up the demonstrations and the reason why the Lebanese are so proud is because they haven't allowed them to ruin the cause. This is why the Lebanese are so upset with the images. They should continue to be proud of everything they've done because after more than 30 years of letting politicians, foreign intervention, proxy wars and civil wars keep them apart, they are finally unified for one beautiful cause. We can't let the media get to us, they do what they can to draw in readership, because it is a dying industry and they are desperate to sell their stories. There is no need to bully the photographer/artist, she has the right to post and express herself. She's not the issue here. The issue is the false representation of the photos under a context of "current news". Anyone from the outside looking at these images is going to get the wrong idea, which is even more of an incentive for the Lebanese to get EVEN LOUDER, BE SEEN AND BE HEARD ;)
P.S To all the international media using dark images for "impact" purposes: You are delusioned into thinking that readers thrive off this kind of news when in fact, it's the complete opposite. TIME to change your tone. Never has Lebanon or the world seen such a peaceful protest. We are the Revolution of Love and nothing you can say or do will change that. ❤️ @time
