Lebanon in a Picture

Here’s hoping you are all doing well. Today I dedicate this post to all... Here’s hoping you are all doing well. Today I dedicate this post to all the hard working women past and present who left their homeland, their family and friends, migrated to a new country for better opportunities so that they could give their children a better life than they had. In the middle of preparing this spread my daughter asked if I could show her where my mother used to work back in the 1970s when she first arrived in Australia. I knew the bakery had shut down many many years ago and I wasn’t quite sure what was in its place. Hesitantly I agreed to try and remember how to get to where the bakery used to be. When I got there nothing looked familiar and I was sure I had the wrong address. I called my older brother and asked him if he could guide me to the street. He got us as far as his memory would take him. My daughter and I got out of the car and asked some of the shop owners if they remembered anything about a Lebanese bakery in the area. Bingo, the paint shop owner recalled everything about the bakery and pointed to where an old yellow house with a fig tree in the front stood still stood . When I looked towards where he was pointing I got goosebumps all over my body. It was as if someone had picked me up and threw me back 40 years or so ago. I remembered the old yellow house in front of the bakery. I remembered the fig tree and the times my younger brother and I would climb it to pick fresh figs. I remembered the bakery building. It was the exact same on the outside. Red bricks. Everything else looked unfamiliar. The building looked like a junk yard, now used for spare parts for anything you could think of. We took some photos for old times sake and headed back home. I’m sure my daughter will be going back there for more photos as it looks like she might be basing her next art project on something to do with women’s work. Will keep you all posted. Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead. ❤️❤️
